SCHOOL OF THE SOLDIER AT RILEY’S FARM

September 13th and 14th, 2008

Riley’s Farm is a working apple orchard and living history farm featuring pick-your-own-fruit, living history education, dinner theater, group banquet facilities and extended, historically-themed overnight stays.  ACWS will be setting up civil war encampments and providing civil war living history to the public on Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 10 AM to 4 PM.  On Sunday, Riley’s Farm is closed to the public, but the ACWS will be conducting School of the Soldier activities until 4 PM.

THIS IS A LIVING HISTORY ONLY EVENT ON SATURDAY, WITH A SCHOOL OF THE SOLDIER ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. There will be no battles, nor firing of weapons.


DIRECTIONS

Riley’s Farm is located at 12261 S. Oak Glen Road in Oak Glen, CA 92399. 

From Los Angeles & Points West: Take the I-10 or the I-60 East towards Palm Springs. Exit on Beaumont Avenue. Turn left and proceed approximately nine miles, until you see the sign that reads “Welcome to Oak Glen.” (Beaumont Ave./Road will become Oak Glen Road.) Look for the large, red-lettered “Riley’s Farm” sign on the right hand side of the road.

From Palm Springs and Points East: Take the I-10 west towards Los Angeles. Exit on Beaumont Avenue. Turn Right and proceed approximately nine miles until you see the sign that reads “Welcome to Oak Glen.” (Beaumont Ave./Road will become Oak Glen Road.)  Look for the large, red-lettered “Riley’s Farm” sign and turn in to the right.


PUBLIC HOURS

10 AM TO 4 PM Saturday, September 13th, 2008.  The site remains available to ACWS participants through Sunday September 14th, 2008, 4 PM.


REENACTOR AMMENTIES

Straw, drinking water, and fire wood will be provided.   Free parking and entrance for all reenactors participating in the presentation.  Due to California’s fire danger, please be very careful with your camp fires.   Above ground fires in appropriate containers only.


Riley’s Farm will have a Blue Gray Ball on Saturday night.  This is a dinner/dance.  Tickets must be purchased from Riley’s Farm directly.  Reenactors may obtain a discounted ticket for $25. 

For all reenactors arriving before midnight on Friday there will be a free Sunday breakfast buffet.  Reeactors arriving Saturday can obtain breakfast tickets for $5 each.   Riley’s Farm will distribute free meal tickets to the Friday arrivals.

No vehicles will be allowed access to the upper green encampment area or packing shed area from the period of 9:00 am Saturday, of the event to 10:00 am Sunday.
