This is the first year that this event is planned on a major scale. The Second US Cavalry has participated in Armed Forces Day at the Marine Air Station since the Marines took over from the Navy. There has always been a large crowd, estimated between 10,000 and 15,000 persons for the one day event. There are modern static displays of Marine equipment, such as tanks, amtracs, LAV’s and artillery, as well as aircraft displays. Food is served on Saturday by the squadrons on base. This is the first year that the event is expanding. It is thought that this event will be the major time line event in San Diego County in May from now on. Again, all units are invited by order of the Commanding General, Miramar Marine Corps Air Station. More information will be forthcoming. Call Bill Schurmann for any questions and to reserve camp space.
